Tools Needed for an RB200 Kit Build
The RB200 kit build uses the Toyota MR2 Mk3 (1999–2007) as a donor car. While basic tools are enough for much of the work, some specialised tools will make the body conversion, donor strip and reassembly much easier and safer.
the tools you will need
Basic Hand Tools
These are essential for most of the kit build:
Metric socket set (8mm–22mm)
Ratchet and extensions
Combination spanners (8–19mm)
Screwdrivers (flat & Philips)
Pliers (needle nose + standard)
Torque wrench
Breaker bar
Hammer and rubber mallet
Note: Metric tools are standard on Toyota vehicles.
Panel & Body Fitting Tools
Since most of the RB200 build involves bodywork and fibreglass panels, the
following help significantly:
Power drill + drill bits
Grinder + cutting discs
Belt file
Clamps
Orbital Sander
Trim removal tools
Workshop Support & Safety Equipment
These aren’t glamorous, but they help you build safely:
Trolley jack + axle stands
Wheel chocks
Protective gloves + goggles
Work lights
Many aspects of the RB200 build — especially body panel fitting, mount alignment and finishing — are easier with the right tools. You can complete the build with basic hand tools, but power tools and alignment aids speed up critical steps and improve accuracy.
Safety First
Always support the car securely on stands — never rely on just the jack. Wear eye and hand protection when drilling, grinding or sanding. Bodywork generates dust; use a mask or respirator if possible.
